Saturday 14 Febrary 2009 Today saw the Ladies Invitation Valentines Waltz. The weather Gods were kind and the sun shone. the course was rather difficult as there were patches still frozen whilst other parts were rather wet but all the greens were in play. That said there were some great scores carded, par would have bee 72. There were 15 teams consisting of one lady and two men. The winners were Sara, Jim and Bob with 83. 2nd Julie, Gary and Andrew with 78. 3rd were Sheila, Mo and Mark with 77. Nearest the pin on the second hole was won by Sheila for the ladies and Gary for the men. Before the prize giving Cheryl presented a cheque to Sue from Headway Dorset, her charity for 2008.
Thursday 20 November 2008 Pauline , Cheryl , Bruce and Keith entered a 6 hole night game of golf in aid of The Wessex Autistic Society Ruby Anniversary at Parley Golf Course. It was one third handicap with the best two scores to count. It was certainly a very different experience!! They did supply golf balls with a luminous strip through the centre but they were very difficult to find especially as we were only supplied with one torch. A loss would have proved expensive as there was a £5 per ball deposit. The team won with a score of 29 points. If there are further competitions of this nature I would urge everyone to have a go, it was fun even if it did take 2 hours but take a torch each .
Saturday 25 October 2008 Today was the Lady/ Man/ Senior/ Junior competition. A fun day was had by all and the golf gods were kind with the weather. It was a keenly contested competition with some excellent scores. Only the best 2 out of 4 were to count. The winning team were Roz , Mike , Roger and Jordan with a massive 94 points. 2nd were Julie, Gary, Andrew and Robbie with 93 who beat Jacqui, Matt, Jack and Daniel on countback over the back 9 holes. Nearest the pin went to Maurice and Lin . Well done to all the teams.
Saturday 27 September 2008 was Presidents Day. The President, Rod Thomson, organised a really good day, including the weather. Thanks Rod. Roz , Pauline , Carol and Cheryl won the Ladies prize and had the lowest score of any of the teams entered with 10 birdies, 6 pars and 2 bogies with 7.4 shots to tske off. Their total score was a fantastic 56.6. In 2nd place was Stacey, Leslie, Glo and Sandra with a score of 63.3. We all had to play off 1/10th of the conbined handicap of the team. The Ladies longest drive was won by Jacqui.
Saturday 30 August 2008there was a 4 Person Open Team event organised by the boys. Not only did they arrange good weather but managed to get a fantastic number of entries. Pauline Val Cheryl and Des entered a team named "pick 'n' mix". The event is played from the reds for the ladies and the whites for the men, off 3/4 handicap, men's stroke index with the ladies getting 3 extra shots with the two best nett scores to count. We had a great days golf and came in with a 131 which was 13 under par. The team were the leaders in the club house for quite some time but were beaten by all male teams carding great scores of 128 and 129 then pushed into 4th place on count back.
There was supposed to be a fun day 4BBB on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of June but the course was closed due to flooding. We changed it to the evening of Friday 4 July2008 The first ones off got in before the rain, not so lucky the tail end Charlies!! They got very wet, but, as there were so many prize winners who were not only very wet but also needing miners lamps in the fading light there is no photographic evidence of the evening. 1st was Julie and Stan, 2nd was Carol and Roger, 3rd was Lesley and Richard and in the non handicap event was Linda and Mark. Nearest the pin were Terri and Rod. Best front 9 was Cheryl and Bruce, Best back 9 was Pam and Roy. Well done to everyone for turning up, playing in the wet and dark and actually managing to make a small profit on the event.
Saturday 28June 2008 was Mickeys Captains Day. There was a good entry of Ladies teams on the day. The Ladies winners were Jill, Bridgette, Molly and Maddie with a huge score of 111. Bridgette also won the longest drive in the Ladies competition. A fun day.
Friday 11 April 2008 together with Boscombe Ladies we had a Captains Away Day at Crane Valley Golf Club arranged by Cheryl and Lana. The weather was foul but we battled on and played all 18 holes in this Stableford competition. Lesley was the winner with 31 points, so well done. Everyone got a little prize though. Afterwards we had a two course meal which was very good, a good day was had by all. Lucy used the event to produce some course work for her GCSE in sport and proved to be an excellent starter, well done. Last word is one of to Robert Doughty for getting us a nice discount and his assistance in ensuring all dietary requirements were catered for. No photos as we were all rather damp and nobody had a camera with them.
Saturday 9th February 2008 THE VALENTINES WALTZ The golf Gods were kind to us and the sun shone all day. There were late changes to some teams but we had a full compliment of 16 teams of 3. Nobody either noticed or were too kind to comment on the mistake on the home made score cards, that was where on the men's section there was a par 7 with a stroke index of 7. THE WINNERS were Pauline, Keith and Bruce with 82 points. RUNNERS UP were Pam, Roy and Glen with 78 points. THIRD were Terri, Dave and Billy who beat Cheryl, Budgie and Sid on count back with 77 points. NEAREST THE PIN LADY was Carol. NEAREST THE PIN MAN was Keith who deserves a special mention for getting a birdie 2 on ALL the par 3 holes. THE LONGEST WALK went to Carol, Roger and Malcolm but the latter had to leave the course at the 10th as he became unwell. Hetty the honesty pig raised £25.93 for the Lady Captains charity, thank you for all the donations. Thanks also to the Social Club Lottery for their kind donation of £50 towards the day. Most of all thank you to all the ladies who manned the desk taking entry fees and selling raffle tickets and Sheila, the Competition Secretary, for checking the score cards.
