During 2008 to mark my year as Ladies Captain I decided to donate everything I won playing golf during the year to Charity, but not any wine!!!   The charity I chose was one that had given me a great deal of help, that is Headway Dorset. The people at Headway are intirely funded by donations and assist in the rehabilitation of local people who have suffered head trauma.  There are a huge number of people locally who benefit from their assistance. For more information about this worthy, local charity visit their web page at www.headwaydorset.org.uk

Jeff and Max of Templar Wines presenting Cheryl with her prize

Loosly related to golf, as I play with the wife of one of the partners, I signed up to www.templarwines.com and had a great surprise to be told by Jeff and Max, the partners in the company, that I had won a draw for two tickets to Ladies Day at Ascot.  Racing not really being my thing I asked Jeff to sell the tickets for me to raise funds for my charity.  He managed to sell them for £100, not only that, they gave me a lovely bottle of bubbly.  Thank you.  We had a photograph taken to mark the presentation. Jeff sent me a copy of an e-mail sent to him by the lady who bought the tickets.  She took her Mum and both had a fantastic day out.  They had a good time and my fund is £100 better off so everyone is pleased.

The Christmas Hamper Raffle, which raised £150.50, was won by Brenda with ticket number 100.  This was drawn by our President, Rod, at the Christmas Dinner Dance.  Brenda spent my Captains Day serving on my charity cake stall and raised £100, so a worthy winner.

Thank you to Bob for not only donating a knitted golfer and suggesting a "name the golfer" game to raise more but he also donated the 1st prize, a Waitrose Hamper.  This raised £68.  The winning name was drawn by Lucy, who cannot play at present due to a broken arm.  They say golf is supposed to be a none contact sport!!, damn bunkers.  The winning name was "HUBERT" and was won by Kathy.

Would you like to join us?  We are a small but friendly group of ladies who like to play golf.  We are mostly working women so unlike a lot of clubs our Club Day is a Saturday.  Our age range is from the 60's down to a teenager.  Handicap wise we range from about 11 to 36.  Not only do we have our Club competitions and trophies to win but we arrange fun competitions and mixed matches with the Mens Section. Just contact us for a chat and we will invite you in for a cup of tea, or a glass of wine!
